Hangzhou Forum on United Nations Committee on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM) was held successfully in Hangzhou in May 24-26, 2012. Dr. Paul Cheung, Director of UN-GGIM Secretariat and over 40 government leaders of surveying area from UN, UK, Germany, Japan etc. and Mr. Xu Deming, Vice Minister of Ministry of Land and Resources, Director General of National Administration of Surveying, Mapping and Geoinformation (NASG), Mr. Wang Jianmin, Vice Governor of Zhejiang Province, Mr. Li Pengde, Deputy Director General of NASG, and some other government leaders of surveying area from NASG local provinces, and leading companies attended this forum. Dr. Paul Cheung, Mr. Xu Deming, and Mr. Wang Jianmin all gave a speech in the opening ceremony, and then, as representatives of UN, NASG and Zhejiang Government, they signed a tripartite contract to make Hangzhou a permanent venue for UN-GGIM Forum.

Session 4, Considerations of Data Quality Assurance Framework
Session 5, New Models in Data Sharing and Dissemination
Session 6, Discussion on a Statement of Ethics on Global Geospatial Information


As the leading company of China surveying, mapping and geoinformation area, SOUTH had been invited to the forum. Alex Li, Sales Executive of International Business Division, and some technicians of SOUTH Hangzhou Branch attended this forum and introduced the recent developments of SOUTH. All the participants of China and many participants of abroad were familiar with SOUTH. They all admired the progress of SOUTH International Business, and showed great interest to the SOUTH Geoinformation Solutions and SOUTH COMPASS Navigation Satellite System Solutions.


The United Nations initiative on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM), established through ECOSOC in July 2011, aims at playing a leading role in setting the agenda for the development of global geospatial information and to promote its use to address key global challenges. It provides a forum for coordination and dialogue among Member States, and between Member States and relevant international organizations, including the United Nations Regional Cartographic Conferences and their permanent committees on spatial data infrastructures, such as the Permanent Committee on GIS Infrastructure for Asia and the Pacific (PCGIAP). PCGIAP and the Regional Cartographic Conferences for Asia and the Pacific constitute an important regional consultation mechanism to exchange information and address common and critical issues among national mapping and surveying authorities, and the international scientific organizations active in geospatial information.
