BRIDGING WITH AFRICA

The State Bureau of Surveying & Mapping organized a meeting in the capital city of Tanzania, Dar-es-Salaam on April 23rd, 2010. It was the "ROUND TABLE MEETING ON CHINA-AFRICA COOPERATION IN SURVEYING AND MAPPING", and representatives from the leading authorities of surveying and mapping of Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Congo, Sudan, and Zambia were invited to the meeting.


Headed by Mr. Li Weisen, Deputy Director of the State Bureau of Surveying & Mapping, the delegation group consisted of the Department of Science & Technology, International Cooperation, China Maps Press, and relevant enterprises; including SOUTH. Chinese Ambassador of Tanzania - Mr. Liu Xinsheng as well as the Chinese Economic Commercial Representative in Tanzania-Mr. Zhao Zhong-Qiu have made their appearance as special guests and gave their speech. ZHAO Ya-Hui, a famous reporter of the People's Daily ( a widely popular news paper in China ) accompanied the delegation and conducted the interview.


State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping introduced the developments as well as the achievements of China's surveying industry, in addition, initiated the meeting to enhance the cooperation with the surveying community in Africa. The accompanied enterprise’s representatives briefed the profile and the outlook of future collaboration, including aerial photography survey, data processing, GIS software, Surveying equipments, GPS, and etc.  This has attracted much attention and the desire to co-operate from the African delegates.


As the leading manufacturer of surveying products in China, SOUTH presented to the audience, our progress in the global market as well as in Africa with the speech, delivered by Vice President, Mr. Yang Zhenpeng has won favorable comments from the participants, as the most cost-effective surveying product that best fits the needs of the African surveying industry. 


Donation ceremony was a significant part of this event; therefore, the companies that were present donated some surveying equipments, such as GIS software packages and map collections to the African associates. From SOUTH, the donated items included Total Stations, Electronic Theodolites, and Automatic Level, the total amounting to USD30, 000.


Ultimately, the meeting and the events were a success. SOUTH is looking forward to a fruitful future with the African market.
