An interview with Mr. Max - the MD of SOUTH, Mr. Bink - PM of USV solution of SOUTH.

Ava, Q:

Hello, Max and Bink. There are a variety of USV solutions on the market. As we know, USV is a fairly new solution for many of our surveyors. Unlike the total station and RTK, our customers are very knowledgeable about them, so can you give some suggestions to our customers, Max?

MD Max, A: 

Yep. Sure you can, the USV market is confusing right now. I've even seen a floating plate with the propeller and equipment installed and then it's called a USV solution. The reason for this is that as you mentioned, customers don't know much about USV.

To be precise, USV is not a new solution. I became aware of that around 10 years ago, and I've found that the solution to be very useful for hydro personnel. And during these years, SOUTH has also completed many survey projects with USV solution.

Thanks Max, why these 3 keywords? Can you let us know more about SOUTH USV?

MD Max, A:

These keywords are based on SOUTH experiences, and we also know USV very well and have the core technology of USV solutions and sonar devices.

SOUTH was one of the first companies to start USV development and research business. In the middle of 2013, SOUTH established the USV R&D team. SOUTH latest USV model is SU30, it is reliable, rugged and excellent performance. We collected a large number of project experiences and created this new design: 

Moon pool, modularized design, culvert-design propeller, auto pilot

There are a number of different designs of USV on the market. SOUTH extensive experience in USV manufacturing and hydrographic projects lead to the creation of the USV SU30 solution: 

1. Moon pool design for devices replacement    

A. Conveniently replace devices (like Echo Sounder, ADCP, etc.) for different projects. 

B. Protect the loaded devices.

2. The modular design facilitates further maintenance. This is very important for the end users. 

3. Culvert propeller. 

A. The coolant system of SU30 is integrated with the propeller, while some other models need to pump water into boat for cooling.

B. Anti-Weed and anti-garbage design to protect the fans of propeller. 

C. The 15CM draught for sailing safer and lunching more convenient.

4. High-accuracy auto pilot.

With RTK fixed solution, SU30 auto pilot can reach 20cm accuracy compared to the design line.
