3D MODELING APPLICATION OF DIGITAL TWIN PLATFORM FOR THREE GORGES HYDROPOWER STATION

By constructing a 3D model of the hydropower station building, target equipment, environment, etc., and combining the hydropower plant image monitoring system video camera, monitoring system data and inspection terminal equipment on the basis of the model, we carried out all-round intelligent inspection research, explored the realization of intelligent online inspection, intelligent camera automatic inspection, virtual training, three-dimensional video fusion and other functions, and built a comprehensive intelligent inspection system for the hydropower station. Through the inspection system, the Three Gorges Power Plant can realize automatic inspection of key lines such as key fire equipment, long-distance equipment, "three leakage" equipment, etc., and system linkage, etc., to reduce the workload of employees, improve the management level of the Three Gorges Power Station, and demonstrate the intelligence level of the Three Gorges Power Station.

Laser scanners bring new revolution to digital twins.

The outdoor scenes and surrounding environment of the Three Gorges Dam  area are restored based on remote sensing images, and high-precision laser point cloud data and on-site texture image data are collected using a Terrstrial laser scanner to restore the internal spatial structure and various equipment of the power station, forming a complete integrated indoor and outdoor 3D visualization scene of the Three Gorges Power Station, serving functions such as intelligent online inspection, automatic inspection with smart cameras, virtual training, and 3D video fusion.

A grading system lead to deal with different project requirements.

Simple model requirements: The dam body and outdoor buildings are modeled by comparing CAD with the actual scene on site, and the 3D model is suitable for industrial engineering animation films. The number of triangles in a single model is not more than 10,000. Large objects in the simple model must have an appearance outline display, small objects can be ignored, but the relevant entrances and exits must be displayed in the model.

Detail model requirements: Modeling is done based on CAD drawings and on-site pictures. The model is made in the form of low-polygon + high-precision textures. The final result achieves a high degree of scene restoration and good visual effects. The total number of triangular facets in an indoor scene should not be less than 10,000 and not more than 100,000. The object model in the fine model should be basically consistent with the on-site.

Model accuracy requirements: Plane accuracy of indoor space model ≤±0.1m;

Intelligent geographic information platform becomes the guardian of water ecological environment.

Three Gorges Power Plant Environmental Protection 3D Visualization Project uses 3D visualization technology to display the environmental protection data indicators of Three Gorges Power Plant and the 3D dynamic effects of the entire process of fish collection and transportation at the fish collection station. The focus is on realizing the 3D visualization of the fish collection station and supporting the digital transformation application of Three Gorges Power Plant. Through the three steps of "sorting out business processes, gathering key data, and building 3D visualization of the entire process of fish collection and transportation", Three Gorges Power Plant Environmental Protection 3D Visualization is finally realized.


The following effects can be achieved through 3D modeling and 3D visualization technology:

① Display of the terrain, buildings, image data, Ministry of Construction building, and dam around Three Gorges Hydropower Station.

② 3D dynamic visualization of the whole process of fish collection and transportation in the fish collection station.

③ Access to real-time IoT data to display relevant indicators of the five subsystems of Three Gorges Hydropower Station in terms of environmental protection.


Specific goals: 

① Fish collection and transportation station: Fish collection station office building model, related facilities involved in the fish collection process, and highlighted fish transportation route model terrain data.

② With Three Gorges Hydropower Station as the center, display the topography of upstream and downstream rivers, mountains, etc.

③ Dam model: Display of Three Gorges Hydropower Station dam model (optimize the existing model).

④ Model of the Ministry of Construction Building: 3D display of buildings in major hub areas along the Three Gorges project.


The visual inspection system is completed by the SOUTH Intelligent Platform.
