FIG-International Federation of Surveyors which was founded in 1878 in Paris, it is the premier international organization representing the interests of surveyors worldwide. It is a federation of national member associations and covers the whole range of professional fields within the global surveying community. It offers an international forum for discussion and development aiming to promote professional practice and standards. FIG has organized 85 terms in many countries since 1878 the first one which held in Paris. Now this year the 86th FIG 2016 conference is held in beautiful New Zealand and at this moment it invited NZIS-New Zealand Institute of Surveyors as one of the sponsors to fill out this session.
This time around 700 people from all over the world came to attend this conference and many main manufactures of the surveying instruments came to exhibit their latest products, including Trimble, Leica, ESRI, SOUTH and so on. South is the first time in FIG, this time we bring our latest RTK products-Galaxy 1, predict SOUTH UAV and Galaxy 6 which will be released soon in this year.
During the time, SOUTH Galaxy 1 was drawing lots of attention; many surveyors from New Zea land, Australia, Africa, Mid-east and so on were very interested in it. Not just because of the quality and compact design, but also the functions and the performance. Even one of the surveyors from Australia asked us to do a demo of Galaxy 1 after the exhibition, then we did the demo in a very convert environment and he is very pleased with the accuracy and the performance of using BDS. Before he never knew what is SOUTH, after demo he was very impressed with SOUTH products.
In this time FIG, there are many sessions each day and some of the delegates from each country will give a presentation for different surveying fields. There was one regarding to CORS which is given by Turkey surveyor. After that, many surveyors come to visit our stand and want to find out something about south CORS, including the hardware and software part. Two of the surveyors from Australia lands department who are under the responsibility of CORS department visited us twice and I gave a brief of south NRS system to them. Australia also has a very strong international CORS system which provides reference station services to the world. I took the example of SOUTH CORS system in Hong Kong, they are very interested in south NRS system which can be in line with other brands, like Trimble, Leica and Ashtech. They were amazed by the ability of NRS software platform.
The conference lasts 5 days totally from 2-6 May, everyone enjoyed it and it is a very nice platform to present the new things and new ideas of surveying. The next one FIG will be held in Finland in 2017 and Istanbul in 2018, SOUTH will see you around and bring you more new things.
