In the early 1990s, SOUTH recognized that GPS would bring a revolution in domestic surveying field and in 1997 SOUTH introduced the first precision geodetic GPS in China --- NGS200H, which broke up the foreign dominated market. From then on, Chinese produced their own GPS, while foreign brands had to cut their prices in order to compete in the market. SOUTH became the pioneer in the localization of GPS with the first static GPS, the first differential GPS on water, the first RTK and the first Software for CORS----NRS in China.

In 2009, SOUTH sold more than 8,000 units of RTK in China, further popularizing RTK among surveyors. RTK becomes their first choice. Meanwhile, the work range and calculation speed of RTK are increasing constantly, the reliability of data is being improved all the time. Nowadays, it is difficult to imagine surveying work without GPS, for example, a common surveying job on water could be done in half a day by GPS and echo sounder, but if done by total station, it may take more than a week, not to mention the control survey work in large area.

It is also worth mentioning that the network of CORS. In 2008, SOUTH realized the localization of CORS network, first breaking the monopoly of foreign brands and successfully establishing a number of virtual reference stations. In February of 2009, China’s first national network of CORS system constructed by SOUTH passed completion acceptance. During 2009, hundreds of SOUTH CORS stations were established and quickly passed acceptance. They are now serving the surveying work of each city and providing base for city digitalization. All this shows the strong research capabilities of SOUTH.

Currently, SOUTH is having an in-depth cooperation with Trimble. By using the he first class mainboard from Trimble, the technical features of SOUTH RTK upgrade to a higher level. Besides, with the competitive price, the popularity of RTK again makes a major step forward.

RTK has no longer been an image of high-end, now it is an important surveying instrument like total station and auto level.
